My Career in Inter- and Multi-Disciplinary Research

報(bào)告摘要：

報(bào)告將重點(diǎn)介紹Roberto Ballarini教授與其學(xué)生在過(guò)去四十年中,，對(duì)于民用,、機(jī)械,、航空航天,、材料、化學(xué),、生物醫(yī)學(xué)和電氣工程相關(guān)問(wèn)題進(jìn)行的研究,。所選擇的示例包括鋼筋混凝土結(jié)構(gòu)的漸進(jìn)式倒塌；利用微機(jī)電系統(tǒng)設(shè)備作為平臺(tái)在微米和納米尺度上進(jìn)行材料測(cè)試,；通過(guò)反向工程軟體動(dòng)物殼體進(jìn)行仿生復(fù)合結(jié)構(gòu)設(shè)計(jì),；連接量子力學(xué)、分子動(dòng)力學(xué)和連續(xù)介質(zhì)力學(xué)的計(jì)算材料科學(xué)等相關(guān)話題,。

I will highlight the research my students and I have conducted over the past four decades on problems associated with civil, mechanical, aerospace, materials, chemical, biomedical, and electrical engineering. The illustrative examples include topics in progressive collapse of reinforced concrete structures¹; the use of microelectromechanical systems devices as platforms for materials testing at micrometer and nanometer scales²; bioinspired design of composite structures through the reverse engineering of the shells of mollusks³; computational materials science that bridges quantum mechanics, molecular dynamics and continuum mechanics⁴; and others as time allows.

主講人簡(jiǎn)介：

Roberto Ballarini教授是休斯頓大學(xué)卡倫工程學(xué)院土木與環(huán)境工程系主任,，曾任美國(guó)明尼蘇達(dá)大學(xué)（University of Minnesota）土木工程系主任。1980年,，他取得紐約城市大學(xué)（City College of New York）土木工程學(xué)士學(xué)位,，并于1981年和1985年分別獲得美國(guó)西北大學(xué)（Northwestern University）碩士和博士學(xué)位,。他的研究成果涉及多個(gè)領(lǐng)域，包括土木,、機(jī)械,、航空、生物醫(yī)學(xué),、化學(xué),、材料工程等領(lǐng)域的材料和結(jié)構(gòu)的理論力學(xué)實(shí)驗(yàn)和計(jì)算。Roberto Ballarini于2019年被授予Raymond D. Mindlin獎(jiǎng)?wù)拢ǜ鐐惐葋喆髮W(xué)為紀(jì)念已故學(xué)者,、美國(guó)力學(xué)家Raymond D. Mindlin而設(shè)置）,，并于2021年獲評(píng)美國(guó)土木工程師學(xué)會(huì)（ASCE）的杰出人物。
